This is a temporary, one-year position that teaches voice lessons and 100-400 level musical theatre courses. This position may also include directing a musical. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Teach a variety of 100-400 level courses in the Musical Theatre curriculum. Teach Liberal Arts Core courses (LAC). Service on departmental committees such as season selection, curriculum. Hold regular office hours. Engage authentically with students, the department, and colleagues. Takes responsibility for all grading of student work and submitting grades at the end of each semester. Continue scholarship in the field. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities. Maintain knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508. Produce and remediate digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Education, Specialized Skills, and Experience: A completed degree, BA, BFA, MFA or PHD, in Musical Theatre. Extensive knowledge of the musical theatre canon. Ability to teach both acting and voice for the musical theatre stage. Proven leadership and vision. Commitment to equity and inclusion. Experience with teaching diverse populations. Familiarity with Theatre Intimacy and DEI best practices. Proficient in course management and online course delivery. Familiarity and or willingness to work with Excel, Office 365 cloud functionalities, Canvas, and Workday. Proven ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships across academic units and with other offices on campus. Preferred Education, Specialized Skills and Experience: Two or more years of full-time teaching at the college level. Additional experience or expertise in one or more of the following areas: musical direction, choreography, music theory, acting, children’s theatre/theatre for youth, technical theatre/stage management, or dramaturgy is preferred. Ability to play the piano at a level to adequately teach a voice lesson. Collaborative spirit, and willingness to work interdepartmentally. Reports To / Supervisory Responsibility: The employee will report to the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Work Environment: Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones, and printers, light traffic). Ability to work in a confined area. Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Fast-paced and collaborative work environment with strict deadlines. Ability to attend Department functions weekdays, nights, and weekends, as needed for rehearsal, performance, and events. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment. Travel: Less than 5% is expected for this position for recruitment and conferences. FLSA Status/ Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full-Time position, Exempt, Temporary, 9-month. Typical Work hours vary. Monday-Friday, with courses occurring between 8-5:30, and/or rehearsals between 6-10pm and some weekends, depending upon production schedules.
