Provides direct lactation care and instruction to breastfeeding mothers and infants. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including disposition, referral, and spiritual and/or psychosocial support needs. Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary personnel. May precept student nurses and new hires. Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources. Monitors, documents, and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Evaluates learning needs of the patient and/or family and provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances. Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. One (1) year of nursing experience required. Certification in lactation/breastfeeding is required. IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) is preferred. Graduate of an accredited Nursing program. BLS certification required. Physical demands include bending, stooping, climbing, lifting, pushing, pulling, repetitive movements, and exposure to various hazards. Shift: Days.
